Rector

I have been Rector at St Michel du Valle, known simply as the Vale Church, since February 2023, The church has been witnessing to the Christian faith and serving the people of the Vale for over 1000 years.

I feel very honoured to be part of this tradition as I get to know the people of the parish of the Vale, the congregation and the many people who attend our Sunday services but also those who attend weddings, baptisms and funerals here or simply visit as they pass by.

Rector’s Warden

First item (Hidden)

The earliest recorded reference to the office of Church Warden was in 1368 but the office is thought to be even older than that. The tenant of the office of Rector’s Warden is filled by appointment at the discretion of the Rector. The Rector’s Warden serves for a period of 3 years and is eligible for reappointment. I was appointed Rectors Warden in 2008 and have served under 3 Rectors and overseen 2 vacancies.

The Rector’s warden is there to support the Rector, ensure all church activities and services runs smoothly, ensure the Church records and documentations are correctly maintained. There are many more duties undertaken as part of the role.

Lay Pastoral Assistant & Anna Chaplain and Magazine Editor

First item (Hidden)

I came to pastoral ministry after previously being a Consultant Nurse and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Counsellor in Scotland. I have been a member of Vale Church since 2015 and trained first as an Anna Chaplain then undertook further training to become commissioned as a Lay Pastoral Assistant.

As an Anna Chaplain I promote the spiritual welfare of older people in the church and wider community. As a Lay Pastoral Assistant I may work with children and young people, the sick, the recently bereaved and the elderly and housebound.

Pastoral ministry calls for a loving and compassionate heart, and a willingness to listen and support those in need.

My husband, David, and I became involved with Vale Church when we sent our daughter to Sunday School. A natural development for me was to assist with the Sunday School and I eventually progressed to becoming leader.

Safeguarding Officer

I was appointed Parish Safeguarding Officer for the Vale Church in April 2025. I have experience of extensive involvement in safeguarding throughout my career as a Secondary school teacher, through working with Social Services to support vulnerable young people in foster care and as Safeguarding officer for my previous church in the UK.

I am responsible for ensuring that church volunteers are police checked and fully trained in safeguarding issues, so they carry out their roles safely. I work closely with the Rector, the Guernsey Deanery and the Diocese of Salisbury Safeguarding teams to ensure any safeguarding issues are followed up appropriately. The Vale Church is fully committed to remain a ‘safe church’ for all members of the congregation.
